Port of Toulon

The port of Toulon in the south of France and provides connections to various Mediterranean ports. In the past the port was home to the largest French naval base in the Mediterranean. The port has ancient origins and was the reason for the development of the surrounding city. The Old Dock was built under Henry IV and the New Dock was designed by Vauban and built between 1680 and 1700, during which time Richelieu built the Arsenal. Golfo Aranci is a really interesting town on the northern coast of Sardinia. It owes its name to misinterpretation, as it is said that in the 20th century some cartographers understood the name as 'Gulfu di li Ranci', ie 'Gulf of the Crabs', therefore it became Golfo Aranci.
