Levanzo is an island in the Egadi archipelago, located directly opposite Trapani. Levanzo is the smallest Egadi island and in the past was known by the Arabic name of Djazirat 'al Yâbisah. The island is only 5 kilometres long and the highest point reaches 280 meters, its called Pizzo del Monaco.
Places to visit
Levanzo has many caves due to its geology, some of which are also very interesting from an archaeological point of view. The most famous is the Grotta del Genovese that dates back to the Paleolithic period. There is still some ancient graffiti on the walls depicting animals and dancing figures. It is possible to spend a pleasant holiday enjoying the sea, nature and good food on Levanzo. Taking a boat trip will allow you to appreciate the colours of the island. You can also take a walk in the pinewoods and swim in Cala Faraglioni and Cala Tramontana. Why not try a Cabbuccio, a typical sandwich stuffed with local products.
Beaches
Levanzo is full of small, picturesque beaches, do not miss the beaches with stones that are located along the path towards Faraglione. Also in the south-east of the island, there are two bays called Cala Fredda and Cala Minnola where you can enjoy beautiful sea, they are reachable both by land and sea. In the waters of Cala Minnola, you can even take an underwater excursion to see the remains of a Roman shipwreck.
