Killini is a city in Greece, located on the west coast of the Peloponnese. Although it was already populated in prehistoric times the city grew and developed during the Roman era. In that period the city became important because of its curative baths and the spas, which still attract flows of people today. In medieval times Killini saw architectural expansion and various castles and fortresses were built.
Places to visit
Today Killini is a tourist destination thanks to the presence of a long sandy beach and the thermal baths. The Killini hot springs gush out between two hills and the whole area is surrounded by lush vegetation, including eucalyptus trees that were planted around the end of the 1800s.
The fortress is not to be missed, it is known as Kastro Chlemoutsi and was built in 1220 by the Franks, it was subsequently the strategic seat of other populations such as the Venetians and the Turks who followed. About 65 km away from Killini there is an archaeological site called Olympia, which is rich in remains of temples, theaters, monuments and statues. Also around Killini there are a few ancient monasteries of Byzantine origin.
Connections with Kefalonia and Zante
Killini plays a fundamental role in connecting the island with Kefalonia and Zante, crossings take about an hour. Killini can be reached from Patras, where ferries also arrive from Italy, the distance between the two centers is about 75 km.
