Netferry explores Parkorman Park in Istanbul

Are you ready to discover a new side of Turkey? Forget the markets, the smell of incense and the sounds chiming from the minarets, because today Netferry wants to paint a more modern picture of Istanbul. Istanbul is surely one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it brings together the past and present and the East and West. Open green space doesn’t normally come to mind when you think of this bustling city, but there is a forest park close to the city that is something very different from the expected.

Parkorman Park is around 17 kilometres north of Istanbul and its really surprising. Walking through the heart of the forest and listening to the sounds of nature away from the city is an unforgettable experience.

The Parkorman project was designed by US architects DROR. They had the idea to create a public park to encourage biodiversity, provide some greenery and for the park to acts as a vital lung in the city.  In Parkorman you can climb the trees, walk along suspended bridges, swing on hammocks and bounce on big trampolines.

The Park has five different areas, the first is an open square at the entrance, which acts as a meeting place. The Loop, which is an area of big comfy hammocks that rock you like a baby. There is a pool, for swimming, the i Chords, which are an area of suspended bridges that wind around the tree trunks. And the Boschetto, a path designed like a labyrinth.  You encounter interactive sculptures along the path, such as the Fountain of Clarity; a cube of flowing water to experience a moment of solitude and reflection. It is worth making a visit out to the park from the city because it is a unique experience that puts nature into a cutting-edge context!
